Having been awarded an at-large health for the playoffs, the Los Altos boys basketball team practiced hard in preparation for their first season game.
Their determination to succeed was strong. With the help of each team member and coaches, Jeff Lucas and McCullough Lydell, they had a successful season. With the support of family, team members, and the students, they were able to get as far as they did.
The boys were able to win fifteen games, but unfortunately lost thirteen of the twenty -eight games. “Coming back home after losing a game was definitely hard, and the bus rides were awkward too, but we knew we tried our best and played hard, and that was all that mattered, just like Coach Lucas would say after every game,” expressed Walter Lee, senior. The boys kept a positive attitude and continued striving for the best until the very end.
The boys finished by beating Gabrielino in the first round on the rod. They then lost in the second round to South Torrance at home, this ending the season. Tears and dreariness were visible as the boys finished from their last game. Although they did not win, the boys played hard all season, and that will never be forgotten. “The bond that was created between each and every one of my team members will always remain inseparable. Even though we did not win CIF, the four years I played basketball were some of my fondest memories of high school that I will never forget,” confessed Ernesto Gonzalez, senior.
