Who could possibly hate prom? Who could avoid attending such a memorable moment? You’d be surprised. There are so many people that despise prom that there was a dance created that is the complete opposite of prom. It’s called M-O-R-P, prom, spelled backwards.
Morp was originally created to have an event that students that, for whatever reason, couldn’t attend prom. However, throughout the years, the meaning has changed. Morp has become a very controversial event. Mark Hughes, science, says, “It’s not worth it to hold this event. We’ve had bad experiences in the past with morp. Why should we as adults go through the headache?”
Many students are also opposed to Morp, while some of them didn’t even know what it was. Andrew Duran, junior, says, “It’s stupid, because morp is the same thing as prom. It’s contradicting itself. If people were opposed to prom, why would they go to a different dance? If you’re going to attend a school event, it might as well be prom.”
Not many students like the concept of morp. “What’s the point of having morp when there’s prom? It’s a rip off,” says Kimmy Kou, junior.
However, there is that group of students who completely understand it’s purpose. Amanda Tovar, junior, says, “I think it’s just another dance for people who can’t afford prom or didn’t get asked. They still have the opportunity to have a memorable end of the year dance.” Last year morp was cancelled due to nobody attending. Lauren Roberts, junior, says, “There’s going to be no morp this year.” So it really comes down to our students, dances are based upon ourselves, and like no other, so is morp. It’s up to the students to decide what will be a success, and what will crumble to the floor.
