Winter Guard

The performing arts academy is known to distinguish themselves from the majority. Every year the students work diligently in order to show up their rivals. The award winning Los Altos Winter Guard is no different this year.

On March 24, the team went to Ramona High School to compete in the Intermediate A division against nine of the most competitive schools in their division. The guard ended up taking home the second place trophy with high hopes for their next competition. “This year, we changed gears and went with a more ambitious show,” says Robert Hahn, color guard coach, “We’re definitely excited for the rest of the season and ready to defend our gold medal.” The guard will be competing on April 1 at Royal Oak Middle School. “We’re hungry for victory. All the practice and hard work will pay off once we achieve excellence and take home that first place trophy,” says Katie Clark, junior.

This year, the Los Altos Winter Guard presents a show about a girl getting heartbroken. The show features dancers, weapons and flags. The show is entitled “And I was thinking about you.” The show has yet to be finalized but those involved are anticipating success for the rest of the season.

“The best part of color guard is that we start out as complete strangers and slowly become friends. But by the end, we all come together as family,” says Leslie Valle, assistant color guard coach. The team is definitely excited to see how their season will play out.
