Mr. Conqueror

On March 16, Los Altos Renaissance held their annual “Mr. Conqueror” in the gym. There were 15 contestants who sought to win the coveted title. Lahslogo

Throughout the night, each contestant tried to woo the judges by doing a variety of things. In the formal wear portion, all the guys tried to show their style wearing custom dress shirts with slacks and unique shoes while being accompanied by a woman of his choice. In the swimsuit portion, contestants tried to woo the judges wearing swimsuits that they created.

Those events led to the final round where contestants would participate in a talent show. In the end, there were five students who were picked to be in the semifinals for Mr. Conqueror:Levi Gomez, Lemuel Chung, Hector Duarte, Chico Something, and Someone else came through. Gomez soothed the judges by singing a song, which was loved by all. Chung caught the attention of everyone in the crowd as well as the judges by playing the ukulele, the guitar, and the piano, along with breakdancing in front of the crowd. Duarte made the crowd laugh as he wore a flamingo ring around his waist and danced while providing a comic feel to the gym. Chico Something also created a dance which he executed skillfully. Someone else also created a dance which made the crowd laugh throughout his performance.

In the semifinals, the contestants were to go into the crowd and gather money for a Los Altos student in need of finances. As Mr. Chris Reeder, Renaissance advisor, told the story of what was happening, everyone else pulled out their wallets. This portion was a two minute run where whoever gained the most money would add a number to their score. When Reeder sent them off, each contestant ran swiftly through the crowd, pulling in a lot of money. When the money was counted, they had raised over $1000 in 2 minutes which would go to help a student in need. The winner was announced and it was Levi Gomez. Congratulations Levi!

Quote of the Day!

" The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. "
