Magazines are constant reminders of the on-going changes in the fashion industry, but recently there has been an increase in the popularity of less conventional clothing.
From prom dresses to costumes, artists and designers are using less fabric and more hardware. The materials of choice now include duct tape and plastic.
Not knowing how to sew is no longer a problem when all you need is a roll of tape and some scissors. Elaborate pieces of clothing and accessories are now being created by sticking pieces of tape together. With one roll of duct tape, one can create a wallet, a bag, or even a shirt. With a little more time and multiple colors of duct tape innovative gowns and tuxedos can also be made.
Plastic is not only for raincoats, but also for everyday wear. It’s not unusual to see plastic bags, but it’s not every day that one see plastic clothing. Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have been seen in plastic fashions which have been making some huge fashion statements.
With a hint of creativity, one can turn a simple household material into the next big thing. All it takes is some thought. Along with duct tape and plastic, crafters are making clothing out of newspaper, juice bags, soda can tops, and other recycled goods.
