Mathapalooza

On Saturday, January 28, students from the district's middle school gathered in the Los Altos gym for the annual math competition called Mathapalooza.

Los Altos Renaissance students and the math department helped coordinate the event. Each middle school had teams that consisted of four students. Each team had a team name. Names varied from Outstanding Ocelots to Flying Sushi. Each team member was given a Mathapalooza shirt for participating in the event.

The competition was divided into two parts, a Jeopardy event and a multiple choice test. Some teams would stay in the gym and compete as a team in a Jeopardy style game. Math questions were projected on a board and the first team to buzz in and get the answer correct won a point. The team with the most points advanced to the next level of competition.

The second part of the competition was a multiple choice test. The students took a test individually while other teams competed in the gym. The test included both multiple choice and written response questions. The team with the highest combined score of the game and the test was awarded accordingly.

At the end, all schools were thanked for their participation. Their hard work was acknowledge and each advisor was recognized. They were all invited to come back next year for what is hoped to be another successful Mathapalooza.

Quote of the Day!

" The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. "
